New York State Society of CPAs Elects 2023–2024 Board of Directors

The New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA) has announced their new Board of Directors.

The New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA) has announced their new Board of Directors—a 39-member governing body—which includes the positions of president, president-elect, vice presidents, secretary/treasurer, directors-at-large and directors as chapter representatives, who all began their terms of office on June 1, 2023. 

The Society’s elected officers are the following:  

Liren Wei, President: Wei is the managing partner at Wei, Wei & Co., LLP, in Flushing, N.Y. He graduated from Baruch College with a B.B.A. in accounting. Wei is a member of the Accounting and Auditing, the Quality Control and Peer Review, and the SEC committees at the NYSSCPA. He joined the Society in 1994. 

Kevin P. O’Leary, President-elect: O’Leary is the Managing Partner at MMB & Co. LLP, in Albany, N.Y. He graduated from Hartwick College with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. He has served a past president, president-elect, vice president, secretary, and treasurer for the NYSSCPA Northeast Chapter, while serving as a past director as chapter representative on the Society’s Board. O’Leary joined the Society in 2000. 

Timothy J. Hamond, Secretary/Treasurer: Hammond is a principal at The Bonadio Group in Syracuse, N.Y. He received his B.S. in accounting and economics, and his M.B.A. in business administration from Le Moyne College in Syracuse. Hammond is a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) and a member of the Finance Committee for Nascentia Health, Inc. He joined the Society in 2010. 

Vice Presidents, to hold office for one year:  

  • Anthony S. Chan, Vice President: Chan is the President and Co-Founder of CA Global Consulting Inc., in Flushing, N.Y. He earned his B.A. in accounting and economics from CUNY’s Queens College and an M.B.A. in finance and investments from CUNY’s Baruch College. Chan previously has served on the Board of Directors as a vice president and a director-at-large. He is currently serving on the Chief Financial Officers (CFO), Internal Audit and SEC committees. He joined the Society in 1989.  
  • Edward N. Lee, Vice President: Lee is a partner at KPMG LLP in Melville, N.Y. He received a B.S. in accounting from Long Island University-Post. Lee is a current member of the Suffolk Chapter and currently serves on the NYSSCPA’s Audit, Government Accounting and Audit, and Nor-for-Profit committees. He has been a member of the Society since 1998.  
  • Philip J. London, Vice President: London is the tax partner emeritus at Wiss & Company, LLP. He earned his B.A. in sociology and accounting from Long Island University-Post and his M.B.A. in accounting and tax from St. John’s University. London is a current member of the Legislative and Strategic Plan Update task forces. He also serves as a member of the C Corporations; New York, Multistate and Local Taxation; and Relations with the Internal Revenue Service committees. He joined the Society in 2002.  
  • John A. Mourer, Vice President: Mourer is the owner of John A. Mourer, CPA, PLLC, in Rochester, N.Y. He is an army veteran who earned his B.S. in accounting from St. John Fisher University in Pittsford, N.Y. Mourer is a current member of the Estate Administration and the Estate Planning and Trust committees, and had previously served as the Rochester Chapter President, President-elect and Vice President. He joined the Society in 2005. 
  • Lisa A. Mrkall, Vice President: Mrkall is a principal at Tronconi Segarra & Associates in Williamsville, N.Y. She received her B.A. in health and human services from SUNY’s  University at Buffalo and her M.B.A. in professional accounting from Canisius College in Buffalo, N.Y. Mrkall serves on the NextGen and Taxation of Individuals committees, and previously served as the Buffalo Chapter president, president-elect and secretary. She joined the Society in 2006. 

Directors-at-Large, to hold office for two or four years: 

  • Orumé A. Hays: Hays is the founder and CEO of Hays CPA LLC, in New York, N.Y. She earned her B.S. in accounting and finance from CUNY’s College of Staten Island, a B.S. in sociology and anthropology from the University of Benin (UNIBEN) in Nigeria, and an M.S. in taxation from Northeastern University in Boston, Mass. Hays is also an adjunct lecturer at CUNY Staten Island. She joined the Society in 2007.   
  • William C. Huether: Huether is a principal at Sheehan & Company, CPA, PC in Brightwaters, N.Y. He received his associate’s degree in business administration from Briarcliffe College, and his B.B.A in accounting and his M.B.A. in corporate finance from Dowling College. Huether received an Emerging Leader Under 40 Award in 2021, presented by the NYSSCPA. He has been a member of the Society since 2010.   
  • Steven M. Morse: Morse is a principal at The Bonadio Group in Rochester, N.Y. He is a regular accounting correspondent on WROC, an ABC affiliate station. He earned his B.S. from Saunders College of Business at the Rochester Institute of Technology. Morse is a volunteer firefighter, a caregiver at a hospice, and a board member of the Rochester School for the Deaf. He joined the Society in 1991. 
  • Robert J. Huether: Huether is the SEC reporting director at The Estée Lauder Companies Inc. in Melville, N.Y. Huether holds an A.A.S. in business administration from Briarcliffe College, and a B.B.A. in accounting and an M.B.A. in corporate finance from Dowling College. He is currently a member of the NYSSCPA NextGen Committee. Huether is the current Suffolk Chapter President-elect and previously served as the chapter’s vice president, secretary and treasurer. He has been a member of the Society since 2010. 
  • Mathieu Aimlon: Aimlon is the founder of Aimlon CPA P.C. in New York, N.Y. He is a CPA in both New York state and in France. He has earned degrees from ISC Paris Grandes écoles, Université Paris II-Panthéon-Assas, Université Paris V René Descartes, and Conservatoire national des arts et métiers (CNAM) Intec in Paris. He earned his B.A. in business administration from SUNY’s Stony Brook University. Aimlon currently also serves as the chair of the C Corporations Committee. He joined the Society in 2012. 

Directors as Chapter Representatives (representing one of the Society’s 15 Chapters), to hold office for one, two or four years:    

  • Nicholas P. Eells – Adirondack Chapter: Eells is the managing partner at The Hoffman Eells Group CPAs, P.C., in Malone, N.Y. He received his B.S. in accounting from Clarkson University. Eells is the immediate past president of the Adirondack Chapter. He has been a member of the Society since 2009. 
  • Natalie Verbanac – Nassau Chapter: Verbanac is the assurance services partner at Marcum LLP in New York, N.Y. She received a B.B.A. from Hofstra University in public accounting. Verbanac is the past president, president-elect, vice president and secretary for the Nassau Chapter, and serves on the Awards and Not-for-Profit Organizations committees for the Society. She joined the Society in 2002.  
  • Kurt J. Button – Rochester Chapter: Button is the assurance principal at Mengel Metzger Barr & Company LLP in Rochester, N.Y. He earned a B.A. and an M.B.A. in accounting from the Rochester Institute of Technology. Button also serves as the current President of the Rochester Chapter. Button joined the Society in 2020.  
  • Frank J. DeCandido – Staten Island Chapter: DeCandido is the member of Frank J. DeCandido, CPA, PLLC, in New York, N.Y. He earned a B.S. in accounting from Fordham University and his M.B.A. in accounting from Walden University. DeCandido currently serves as the president of the Staten Island Chapter. He joined the Society in 1991. 
  • Philip Marciano – Suffolk Chapter: Marciano is the managing director for CBIZ Marks Paneth and shareholder at Mayer Hoffman McCann P.C., in Woodbury, N.Y. He earned his B.B.A. in accounting from Dowling College. Marciano is the current Nassau Chapter treasurer and past chapter secretary. He currently serves on the NYSSCPA’s Government Accounting and Auditing and Not-for-Profit Organizations committees. He has been a member of the Society since 2012. 
  • Kelly Mandell-Klumpp – Buffalo Chapter: Mandell-Klumpp is the senior analyst at Brisbane Consulting Group, LLC (a wholly owned subsidiary of Lumsden & McCormick,LLP) in Buffalo, N.Y. She earned her bachelor’s degree in accounting and economic crime investigation from Hilbert College, and her M.S. in forensic accounting from Canisius College. She currently serves as a member of the NextGen Committee and is the secretary of the Buffalo Chapter. Mandell-Klumpp joined the Society in 2017.
