In the United States, accountants have a variety of certifications from which to choose to enhance their skill sets and further their career prospects. Some of these certifications are:
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
- Certified Management Accountant (CMA)
- Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA)
- Certified Internal Auditor (CIA)
- Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE)

Questions
- Describe which professional organizations are involved in the CPA certification.
- AICPA is involved with which two certifications?
- Select one professional certification from the five listed and look up that organization’s professional code of conduct or code of ethics. Summarize what you find.
- Select one professional certification from the five listed and look up how much continuing professional education (CPE) hours are required once the candidate has attained the certification. Summarize what you find.
- Select one professional certification from the five listed and research the body of knowledge that is covered by that certification exam. Summarize what you find in one to two paragraphs.
- Which certification(s) have the most appeal to you in your career plans? Explain your choice.
- Create a timeline for achieving the certification which most appeals to you. Be sure to consider when you are allowed to begin taking it (related to the certification requirements.
