Aprio is Merging in Two East Coast CPA Firms

The deals with New Jersey-based Tobin & Collins and Maryland-based Squire, Lemkin + Company are expected to close June 1.

Top 35 firm Aprio has deals in place to grow its presence in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. The Atlanta-based firm announced on May 16 it is merging with accounting firms Tobin & Collins and Squire, Lemkin + Company.

The deals are expected to close on June 1. Terms were not disclosed. As part of the agreements, Tobin & Collins’ 43 team members and four partners, and SL+Co’s 25 team members and five partners will join Aprio.

“Tobin & Collins broadens Aprio’s national real estate segment while expanding our capabilities for our clients,” Richard Kopelman, CEO and managing partner at Aprio, said in a press release. “SL+Co will drive continued growth in the Mid-Atlantic region serving clients with high-net-worth and professional service needs. Together, as like-minded firms, we’re reinforcing our people-first, purpose-driven culture and navigating what’s next. Together we will aggressively build out our real estate and trust and estate client roster in the Northeast.”

Based in Hackensack, NJ, Tobin & Collins has served clients in the New Jersey and New York metropolitan area for more than 50 years. The firm’s client base includes real estate entrepreneurs, high-net-worth individuals, and privately held companies in a broad range of industries.

“Joining Aprio is an exciting new chapter for our firm as we look forward to the future and providing expanded capabilities and impactful opportunities for our clients,” said Kevin Collins, Tobin & Collins managing partner.

Founded in 1997, SL+Co is a boutique CPA firm in Rockville, MD, providing services to a diverse client base and specializing in tax advisory, business consulting, and accounting, with a focus on high-net-worth and privately held businesses and their owners. The former SL+Co office will join the existing Aprio Mid-Atlantic team, increasing the firm’s presence in the Washington, DC metro area to more than 375 professionals.

“Our core values of mutual respect and open, honest communication reflect themes within Aprio’s 31 fundamentals, and that alignment is key to the future of our firm and our dedication to our clients while providing them with an overall comprehensive experience,” said Bart Lanman, SL+Co’s former managing partner.
