I read once that the shark hasn’t evolved in tens of millions of years. At some point, it reached perfection in its swimming and eating skills, so it had no need to change.

On July 4th, we had for dinner hot dogs with sauerkraut, French fried potatoes, Heinz Vegetarian Baked Beans and the usual condiments. That morning I had a bowl of Rice Krispies with a cut-up peach. For lunch, I had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. It dawned on me that these are the same type of meals I had when I was a kid, and it seems none of these have changed since then. Perhaps they also reached perfection. I know I feel that way.

We are living in an era notable for fast-moving changes. I get alerts about worldwide news instantly on my iPhone. I lock my car by touching the door handle. I have virtual meetings with IT people in India and clients in Australia and Israel. I would never think of leaving my house without my iPhone, and somehow I am on a 24/7 text schedule with some clients (which I no longer respond to outside of “normal” business hours).

Things change, and many for the better. However, some things do not change, which is also for the better.
