You may recall this scene from the Count of Monte Cristo , where after many years in prison, Edmond Dantes , receives a visit from a fellow prisoner, an old priest, who had spent the previous five years digging an escape tunnel in the wrong direction and ended up in Dantes ' cell. Just to give you a taste of how flexible EY was with maternity leave -- when she told them that she had decided to quit the firm rather than go on maternity leave because she wanted to take more time off to spend with her newborn than the existing maternity leave schedule permitted, the firm said, "Don't quit.

Salary Cuts at the Big 4?

Word on the street is that E&Y might be anticipating that its competitor firms will soon announce compensation adjustments, and that E&Y plans to match those cuts after they are announced. Sounds a lot like parallel conduct in an oligopolistic market. If there is any evidence of an understanding or agreement between the Big 4 as to salaray cuts, it could well be a federal antitrust law violation.
