A day in the life of an Audit Junior

JENSON, AUDIT JUNIOR

I graduated from the University of Portsmouth in 2021 with a 2:1 in Accounting with Finance. I joined Menzies this year as an Audit Junior, after working for a different accounting firm previously. I was aware of the company from a family member and was looking for a role where there was more focus on training towards a professional qualification.

How did you hear about Menzies?

I applied directly to the Menzies careers page. I was then invited to complete initial assessments. Following this there was a telephone interview with the HR team, and then a final interview at the Solent office.

A day in the life of an Audit Junior

I am currently studying towards the professional level of ACA after being able to claim 7 exemptions. I spend 20% of my time studying towards this and the remainder working on audits.

When I am not booked to be studying at our training provider, my day is usually arriving to the office around 8:30am. There I will find out what audit I have been booked to and liaise with the senior to find out what they would like me to do. I get started on my tasks and ask any questions as I go along. I have found that the team are very helpful and take the time to explain the process, and why we are completing the testing that we are.

What are some highlights from your time at Menzies?

Aside from finding a firm who supports the studying towards the ACA, the social side is what stands out to me. There are various team meals, football tournaments, firm wide fun days, and trainee nights out which I have really enjoyed.

The highlight for me has been meeting a new group of people with the same goals. This aspect is really motivating and helped me get through the exams by being able to work with fellow graduates, and other team members who had been through the same process.
