Understanding the stock market is difficult, but much easier when you know the basics and can match them with what you are trying to accomplish.

For the last few years, I have been publishing (as a PDF) a booklet explaining how the stock market works. I cover all of the basics and some pretty sophisticated added information written in my down-to-earth style [this blog is a sample of my writing style].

This booklet started as a program for one of my son’s 5th-grade classes (which the teachers asked me to continue for a few years afterward) and evolved into a program I presented for a Bring Your Kid to Work Day at my office. While I think I connected with many of the children, some of the parents who attended started asking me questions, and I now have a 90-page booklet with a dozen charts and three do-it-yourself self-assessment graphs. The booklet is digital and is easily updated by me, not like a printed version which, while not that difficult, was a bigger deal.

I used this booklet recently for a presentation at the East Brunswick Public Library in April, but a lot has happened since then, and I have included more information about volatile stock markets and why better planning is more essential than ever.

I will be pleased to provide it to you if you email me at [email protected] and just put Stock Market Booklet as the Subject. No messages are necessary. My updated version will be available Wednesday when I email it to you.

It is important to learn as much as you can about the stock market, but it is even more important to understand that the purpose of investing is to accomplish your financial goals. This booklet should help you with that.

Meanwhile, sit tight, stay cool and remember not to invest in anything you do not fully understand. Not investing in something might cost you an opportunity, but it won’t lose you any of what you already have.
