Travelers Expands Amazon Smart Home Program

The Travelers Companies announced 11 new states where eligible customers can receive a smart home kit discount via the insurance firm’s first digital Amazon storefront.

The discounts — along with a free Amazon Echo Dot — were first available to Travelers home insurance customers in California, as well as its Quantum Home 2.0 customers in Colorado, Missouri and Wisconsin. The new states enjoying these perks now include Alabama, Arizona, Connecticut, Idaho, Illinois, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas and Utah.

“We’re excited about the engagement with our Amazon digital storefront, and we will continue to build upon it and expand its reach,” said Michael Klein, EVP and president of personal insurance at Travelers in a press release. “This unique offering helps customers better protect their homes, and provides our independent agents with an innovative way to differentiate themselves in the marketplace.”

Travelers is a major property casualty insurance provider for auto, home and business. The smart home kits are designed to help protect homeowners by including security cameras, water sensors, motion detectors with multi-sensor capabilities, a smart home hub that connects wirelessly to a wide range of smart devices to work together, and an Amazon Echo Dot.

Not only can eligible Travelers home insurance customers receive a discount on their policy with the purchase of a smart home kit, but they can receive discounted kit installation through available Amazon Smart Home Services.

In addition, two new Alexa skills have been released: The “Travelers” skill assists the company’s policyholders with questions on billing and payments (“Alexa, ask Travelers when my bill is due”), while the “Travelers Home Central” skill allows for consumers to access property maintenance and home safety tips (“Alexa, ask Home Central for a fall home maintenance tip”). The company plans to add to its Alexa skills in the future.
