Mattress Company Casper Teams Up With Plus For CBD Gummies

Mattress company Casper has teamed up with edible startup PLUS to offer customers CBD sleep gummies with chamomile and 1 milligram of melatonin, according to a report by TechCrunch.

The move is part of the company’s continuing expansion efforts to move beyond just selling mattresses. Casper already offers some sleep-related products like dog beds, sheets and pillows. It also released a lamp called the Glow, which is a smart lamp meant to mimic the sun setting. It cost $89 at release.

“The options for sleep improvement have been historically limited to a late night Google search or a prescription from your doctor,” said Neil Parikh, a co-founder of Casper. “It’s our mission to change that as the world’s first Sleep Company. Introducing CBD sleep gummies with PLUS allows us to bring a new way to relax and rest to those who need it.”

The company said in a recent New York Times piece that it wants to be the “Nike of sleep.”

Explaining his approach, he said that “long term, consumers are investing in things that mean something bigger. If I’m wearing a pair of Nike shoes, a little part of me feels connected to the Olympic athletes that wear those shoes, and maybe I feel like I’m a little bit faster of a runner. That’s the mentality shift,” Parikh said.

“We’re trying to shift the cultural norms so that hopefully, over time, when people pick a Casper, they’re buying into something a lot bigger than just a slab of memory foam.”

Casper was recently valued at $1.1 billion at a funding round, and mattresses aren’t frequent purchases, so the move makes sense.

Sales of the gummies will be taken care of by PLUS, and they’ll cost $35 for 14 gummies. They’ll be flavored blackberry tea and will be available in states across the country except Alaska, Idaho, Iowa, Hawaii, Mississippi, Oklahoma and South Dakota.
