Washington, D.C., could be the home of Amazon.com’s second headquarters: Officials from the eCommerce giant toured potential sites in the area last week.

According to news from The Washington Post, Amazon officials toured locations in Washington, D.C., Montgomery County, Maryland, and Northern Virginia. The report noted there are nine or more sites in the D.C. area that have been offered up as prospective locations for Amazon’s second headquarters. Officials told the Post the tours in Northern Virginia happened early last week, while the Washington tours occurred in the middle of the week and Amazon workers toured locations in Montgomery County toward the end of last week.

“We’ve had some really good discussions with Amazon,” Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam told the Post late last week. “They were up in Northern Virginia Monday and Tuesday. We showed them four sites up there. I was very proud of my cabinet members and [the Virginia Economic Development Partnership], and I think that Amazon was impressed with the presentation we gave them.”

Meanwhile, D.C. Mayor Muriel E. Bowser (D) dined with Amazon representatives on Wednesday night, proposing four, fast-growing neighborhoods in Washington, D.C. In Maryland, the Post stated that Amazon is looking at land around the White Flint Metro station.

Amazon is working with each HQ2 candidate city to dive deeper on their proposals and share additional information about the company’s plans. We’re excited to visit each location and talk about how HQ2 could benefit our employees and the local community,” a spokesperson from Amazon stated.

Amazon intends to make a decision on the location of its new headquarters, which will create upwards of 50,000 new jobs, by the end of this year. According to the Post, the company is looking for 8 million square feet of office space to grow into over the course of a decade or more, including 500,000 square feet starting in 2019.
