The work continues to grow but the supply of CPAs to do the work isn’t keeping up. … EY laid off 150 people three days before Christmas last year. We need to move forward.

Only a quarter of those students who considered accounting said they don’t want to take the CPA exam but half said they don’t want to pursue 150 hours which suggests that allowing for a second pathway requiring just 120 hours of education like the proposal in Minnesota might successfully bolster dwindling CPA candidate numbers.
